I can release my feelings of trying to control everything. I can go with the flow

I acknowledge that the only person I have complete control over is me! I cannot control the thoughts, opinions, or actions of others. However, I can control my reactions to whatever life throws my way.   I let go of my desire to control situations, and I refuse to allow frustration to cloud my mind. Instead, I choose to focus on what I can do in any given situation.   Even though I cannot control everything, I am not powerless over everything! I still have tools that help me direct my life toward achieving my goals, regardless of life’s distractions. I can choose to change or let go.   My time management skills keep me focused and organized. I allow time in my schedule for dealing with distractions without losing my focus on my priorities. We have control over where we put our priorities, but life will do it for us if we don’t prioritize.   Affirmations are another tool that helps guide my life to where I want to go. Regardless of what life throws at me, I can replace any

My purpose in life is being fulfilled

I am genuinely appreciative of each step I am able to take in life. Even when the road is rocky, I remain thankful that I am able to walk on it. I know that my purpose in life is being fulfilled with each experience.   When I am faced with the harsh reality of suffering, I avoid turning a blind eye. I believe that things are brought to my attention for me to do something about them.   My purpose is to help those whose plights are presented before me. I am meant to make a difference in as many lives as I can. Although I spend time working on personal goals, I am ordained to also focus on external challenges.   Even though I have my own plans, I accept that life comes with its own timing. Each delay I am faced with on the road towards a goal is meant to occur.   There is a lesson for me to learn with each hiccup in life. The person I am today is a fraction of the person that life is preparing me to become. I accept each learning experience as an opportunity to develop

Why do I blog?

I don't know about you, but I didn't get sober to be miserable. I had spent years trying to figure out this sobriety thing I was in and out of the halls of AA and treatment centers. And I had had various lengths of sobriety. But there seemed to be something missing, something I wasn't getting. There were times that I had felt peace and serenity but true contentment? What was that? Over the past few years, I have realized or recognized some of the key elements in the various programs that I had attended AA, refuge recovery, the different programs I was researching NLP, DBT, CBT, and I started listening to motivational speakers such as Tony Robbins, Dean Graziosi, Mel Robbins, and Jens Sicero. All of them had similar approaches, although their techniques might have been a little different. I also was trying to find motivational speakers, particularly women in recovery, and I didn't see many actually; I didn't find any that I could identify with. So as I started learni

9 Strategies to Bring More Balance into Your Life

Life is demanding, and it's very easy to feel that life is out of control. But you have a choice. You can bring balance to your life if you make it a priority. It's easy to spend all day chasing objectives, only to feel that you've accomplished nothing at the end of the day. Rebalancing your life is possible.  A busy life can be meaningful, interesting, and invigorating.   Try these effective strategies to create balance in your life:   1.      Learn to be more patient. Your life might be more balanced than you realize, but it's hard to see it if you're impatient. A lack of patience makes every situation more challenging. A little patience makes many challenging situations manageable.   ·        Impatience is one way you agitate yourself. You also, make yourself less capable in the moment. 2.      Simplify. It's very easy in today's world to buy more things than you need and take on more responsibilities than you can manage. Every extra item and respon

I cultivate a sound mind through daily activities

My sanity relies on me having balance each day. I cultivate a sound mind by keeping it engaged and stimulated.  I love to explore the world around me. I always incorporate exploration in my day, even for just a short while. Visiting a new place or learning about something new is healthy. It maintains my sense of wonder and keeps my brain active. Whether that is checking out a new restaurant, taking a different route home from work, or what have you.   Taking myself away from the rigors of work is beneficial. I avoid allowing work to consume my time. Taking breaks throughout the day to just get up, move, and stretch helps immensely.   My lunch break is spent outside the office. I benefit greatly from introducing a new environment. It allows me to clear my head of the issues at work and return with a fresh mind. I am able to resolve issues when I step away from them for a while.   Exercise is essential to both my body and mind. It keeps me physically fit and also releases e

I am mindful of each moment

Each moment of my life matters to me. Life is composed of a string of moments, and I am determined to make the most of each moment of my life. The first step to maximizing my experience of living is to be mindful.  Mindfulness allows me to experience each moment fully.   When I am lacking mindfulness, I am missing out on my life. My life can become grueling, overwhelming, and lack purpose. When I pay attention to the moment in front of me, I am fully living my life. My life has meaning, is manageable, and fulfilling.   I avoid spending too much time thinking about the past. The past is less relevant than the present. Thinking about the past most often leads to feelings of regret, anxiety, and depression. Regret is an enemy of my enjoyment of the present. Anxiety and depression steal my happiness. These negative feelings can bring about a relapse if I am not mindful and nip it in the bud.   I avoid worrying about the future. Worrying about what might happen next also makes li

Create a Vision for Your Life Today

You’ve probably heard that you can only get where you want to be if you know where you’re going. This pithy statement is as true now as the first time it was said. So how do you come to know where you’re going, so you can get where you want to be?   To start with, goals are crucial. When we set goals, what we’re really trying to do is to bring each piece of our lives in line with our overall vision for ourselves. Using a powerful vision-setting process can help you set more effective goals, since you can chart a course that will take you toward and support your vision.   Do you have a vision for each segment of your life? Do you know where you’re headed spiritually, socially, relationally, physically, financially, and more?   Use this process to help you create a vision that works for you:   1.      Write down your vision for a particular aspect of your life. Write a couple of paragraphs describing what you’d like to have or be. There’s no right or wrong. In fact, y
